The spade also felt the heat of the jungle, and was happy to cool off at the Agua Azul waterfalls. Here he's enjoying a (slightly reckless) ride down one of the smaller falls. Don't worry though, we were on hand to make sure he didn't get washed away!

Marie Sharp's Habanero Pepper Sauce, found on every table in Belize, is the spade's new favourite table condiment. Ours too, as it happens. Marie grows most of the (all natural) ingredients herself at the factory in Dangriga. We're trying to work out now how many bottles we have space to bring home...

Like us, the spade really enjoyed a taste of luxury during Liz and Greg's stay. Here he is enjoying the delicious breakfast at Pura Vida Hotel. Unfortunately we've come back down to earth with a bump and our current hostel room has an incredibly bumpy bed and the paper-thin walls only go half way up to the ceiling! Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.

Adventures of the spade #9

We made a flying visit 10km over the border to Honduras just in time to catch the Honduras V Trinidad and Tobago World Cup Qualifying match. The spade got into the spirit of things, joining all the locals in sporting the Honduran shirt. Although Honduras looked like the stronger team throughout and held a 1-0 lead until the last couple of minutes, Trinidad and Tobago scored a clumsy goal and Honduras only got one point. We'll keep our fingers crossed they make it to the finals but we won't expect too much!

It's been a while since we last saw the spade. That's because, as you can see, he's been busy excavating Mayan ruins, searching for artifacts. Sadly, it looks like the looters got here first.

The spade enjoying a moment for spiritual contemplation in the former Convent of Las Capuchinas in Antigua. This cell was previously home to a nun, who would have had no contact with the outside world whatsoever, unlike the spade. I wonder what he's thinking.

Relaxing in the shady parque central is a must on a hot Granada afternoon, so we decided to take the spade along to soak up the atmosphere. Got a funny look from a Nicaraguan boy, though.

Here´s the spade with a couple of real Panama hats. The type everyone thinks of as Panamas are actually from Ecuador and you pretty much never see them here. I believe they only got their name because they were worn by Ecuadorians working on the construction of the canal. Or something like that! Anyway, these are much more typical of the hats worn by Panamanians.
